Motorcycle Safety

During a recent experienced rider course that I took with some of my VTS/MTA Texas Chapter 6 friends, the instructor asked a seemingly simply question.

"Is it possible to ride a motorcycle safely?"

Easy question right? I answered yes because after all, I was there for the very reason of learning to do that.

Then the instructor proceeded to read the definition of "safe" from Webster's dictionary.

"Freed from harm or risk"

Using that definition of safety, it is quite apparent that motorcycling cannot be made safe because obviously it is not possible to remove all risk. Using this same definition though, it is quite unlikely that we could find any activity that is totally safe.

What we can do is minimize the risks associated with riding though. The purpose of this area of our site is to do just that. It is our hope that the topics presented here will force us all to think about the various risks, safe riding procedures, and etc. so that we may all enjoy each other's company and this sport for many years.
